Is this building on the Buildings Department's lists?
The Buildings Department publishes its orders and inspection notices as separate lists, by building number, with no map. We put them on the map — issued and complied-with lists joined — so you can tap a building and see what has been served on it.
What's on the lists
Unauthorised-works removal orders
Orders to remove unauthorised building works (僭建) — served from 1 May 2023 in this dataset.
Show on the mapDangerous-building orders
The most serious orders: a building or structure the department considers dangerous.
Show on the mapMandatory Building Inspection notices
Owners must appoint a Registered Inspector and repair — where most major-repair bills start.
Show on the mapMandatory Window Inspection notices
Every window in the building inspected, and repaired if needed, by a deadline.
Show on the mapDrainage and defect orders
Orders to fix defective drains and other building defects.
Show on the mapIssued vs complied, read together
We join both lists by the department's building number, so a building that has complied shows as such — never as “outstanding”.
A real example: Kam Fung Garden Block 2, Tsuen Wan
A 35-storey block on Castle Peak Road with three kinds of record at once — one of the most-read building pages on this site.
- Buildings Department records
- dangerous building order · mandatory building inspection notice · mandatory window inspection notice
- Age
- 37 years
- Storeys
- 35
31 of 199 buildings within 300 m also have Buildings Department orders on record.
- A dangerous-building order is the most serious record here; the other two are inspection notices. Each links to the Buildings Department's own explanation on the record page.
- “On the issued list” is what the data proves. Whether the work is finished is shown only when the building appears on the department's complied-with list.

What the lists won't tell you
Orders before the dataset starts
Removal orders are published from 1 May 2023. Older orders registered against a flat show up in a Land Registry search.
Unauthorised works nobody reported
An enclosed balcony with no order is still unauthorised. A surveyor's inspection finds those.
A particular flat
Most orders are listed by building; which unit they concern is on the order itself.
